At 30, after a disappointing career and years of wandering, Guy Assouline has finally found a permanent place.
The relationship that has earned the nickname "Israeli taxes" will no longer fulfill its promise and will forever be remembered as a miss, but at least it has recently managed to stick a stake in the industry, which could not be said in years past.
Assouline does so away from the spotlight, as a Karma player from the fourth division in Italy, where he will open his second season today (Sunday).
Just before the season opener against Sona Calcio, the Gol website recalled the streaky career and mistakes he made along the way.
"Countless players have been labeled as the next Messi in the past. On the face of it, Guy Assouline really had a basis for comparison. In his youth he was an attacking player with magic in his legs, one who could easily pass players and be dangerous from anywhere. Like Messi, he was skinny, short but full of talent. That's where the comparison more or less ends, "they wrote.

The article noted that "Assouline felt the great hype around him and acted accordingly" and recalled the public criticism he leveled at Luis Enrique and Roberto Mancini, the coaches who rarely gave him opportunities in Barcelona and Manchester City.

Assouline managed to travel to five countries and replace 11 teams before signing last February with a team from the fourth division in Italy, hoping to open a new page.
It did happen, and Assouline who scored three goals in half a season hopes to improve the numbers in the opening season.
