Mini-steps towards midfield: Hallbergmoos with the fifth draw in a row

And again no defeat - but no victory either: The 2-2 draw against Augsburg was enough for VfB Hallbergmoos to stay away from the relegation swamp.

Hallbergmoos

- Gedi Sugzda has seen a lot in his footballing life, but draws have had less of an impact on his career. “I've always won or lost,” says the ex-professional. Now he is getting to know something new, because after the 2: 2 (1: 1) against TSV Schwaben Augsburg, the series is six games without defeat - and five draws in a row. With eight points from six games, VfB is still ahead of the relegation places, but does not really get away from the bottom of the table.

The Augsburgers, who are also in the bottom third of the table, are difficult to play because they look staid and like to be on an equal footing with their opponents.

That was exactly the case in Hallbergmoos.

But in the not-too-turbulent first half, the guests almost all finished on goal.

They weren't particularly dangerous, but created a general feeling of discomfort.

A VfB counterattack that couldn't have been more perfect

The Hallbergmooser did not find their way into the game for a long time, until the magic triangle exploded: Simon Werner played steeply, Fabi Diranko ran away from the defender and laid across Kaan Aygün in front of the goalkeeper with a good overview, who only had to hold out his foot. The protagonists of the VfB upswing in recent weeks played a counterattack that couldn't have been more perfect. However, five minutes later they duped: An attack from the left defensive side was not defended consistently enough, and the break lead was over. However, there should have been a penalty after the 1-1 draw when Fabi Diranko received a slap in the face in the penalty area.

After the break, the Hallbergmooser had more of the game and thanks to Simon Werner two good chances to take the lead again.

This time the Augsburg goal came relatively out of nowhere (61st), and five minutes later the home team replied: Philipp Beetz equalized the score with a low shot from 20 meters - his first contact with the ball after being substituted on.

As a result, VfB was closer to another goal, but only had half chances.

Slap in the face - but no penalty

"It wasn't a nice game for the spectators," said Hallbergmoos trainer Gedi Sugzda, summarizing the 90 minutes and ultimately a performance-based division of points. However, he was already mourning the undisputed penalty shortly before the break, when an Augsburg player hit Fabi Diranko clearly in the face, but the striker did not reinforce it theatrically. "It's a shame that the referee didn't have the courage to whistle what everyone really saw," said the VfB coach.

With the recent draw, the Hallbergmooser remain third from bottom and Sugzda is finding it increasingly difficult to deal with the series of draws.

“It's good for morale, of course,” he says of the current development, “but we're not making any progress.” The next options for leaps in the table are now the catch-up game on Wednesday at TSV 1860 Munich II and then the neighborhood derby on the following Sunday at FC Ismaning.
