Yesterday a rather improbable match took place in Suriname.
The country's vice-president, Ronnie Brunswijk was on the pitch during the meeting which saw Inter Moengotapoe face off against CD Olimpia (Honduras) in the round of 16 of the Concacaf league, a sort of Europa League of America central.
The fact of the game is the presence of Ronnie Brunswijk, the current owner of Inter Moengotapoe, who started and captained his team at the age of 60.
He played 54 minutes in the scathing 6-0 defeat to Hondurans in the city of Paramaribo.
With the number 61 on his jersey, his year of birth, he was in attack alongside number 10, Damian Brunswijk, a member of his family.
He regularly plays games with the team.
Sports commentator "MisterChip" says the vice-president becomes the oldest player at 60 years and 198 days to play in an international club match.
Born on March 7, 1961, he is older than the creation date of Concacaf which dates back to September 18, 1961.
Ronnie Brunswijk (vicepresidente de Surinam y presidente del Inter Moengotapoe) is invited hoy en el jugador más veterano (tiene 60 años y 198 días) in disputar an official international party of clubs.
Ha estado 28 minutos sobre el campo.
Su equipo pierde 0-3 al descanso.

Current vice-president and former guerrilla
Brunswijk is a former army sergeant, he had taken up arms becoming a rebel leader against dictator Desi Bouterse in the 1980s. A wealthy businessman, he was sentenced for drug trafficking in absentia to 8 years in prison in 1999 by the Dutch justice (the former colonial power) and at 10 years by the French justice but Suriname does not extradite its nationals.
In mi vida me había pasado narrar algo así!

Elected as an MP in 2005, he had recently allied with the former Minister of Justice of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, head of the main opposition political organization.
Mr. Santokhi was elected by acclamation in July 2020 president and Brunswijk, vice-president by Parliament for a five-year term at the head of this country of some 600,000 inhabitants, border with French Guiana, exporter of gold and oil.
As a result of his legal problems, he will not take any risks and will not make the trip to Honduras for the second leg of the round of 16.
