Frankfurt am Main - Antonio Di Salvo rises from assistant coach to head coach of the German U21 national team.
This was announced by the German Football Association on Thursday after a presidium meeting.
The 42-year-old former professional succeeds his long-time boss, Stefan Kuntz, who has moved to Turkey as coach of the senior national team.
According to the DFB, Di Salvo's contract is valid until 2023.
Hermann Gerland is the new assistant coach.
The former long-time assistant coach at FC Bayern Munich has been a scout for the DFB since August.
