Munich - Viola Oberländer has cleared again.

At the Hyrox World Championship - a competition-based fitness sport - in Leipzig, the Munich native landed on second place.

In an interview with our newspaper, the club manager of the Löwen talks about her passion for sports, the Hyrox trend and her work at TSV 1860 München e.

V.

Viola Oberländer, how did the preparation for the World Cup go?

The preparations actually went quite well, a few weeks before the competition I had muscular problems that could be resolved thanks to regular physiotherapy, but it still limited my running training a bit. In the week before the competition, I unfortunately had a bit of a cold, but apart from that, the training sessions went well. I train mornings and evenings every day, the training is always based on my working hours, but usually I can train well before and after the office. The training always varies, of course, some units are longer, others a little shorter, mostly 4-5 hours a day during the week, sometimes more at the weekend. When training sessions are particularly strenuous, I of course sometimes do less. I don't have a fixed training planno trainer and also no scheduled “rest days”. I have training partners who pull along and try to tailor my training and my breaks to suit me. When I'm too tired, I slow down a bit. As a rule, however, my training partner is already accelerating well.

What was your goal for the World Cup?

Well, I think it would be wrong to say that I'm going to be in a competition to finish second (laughs).

No, honestly, I wanted to play at the top, improve my times so far and of course the goal was to get on the podium.

I knew that the competition was very strong and although I expected to end up in the top 5, I couldn't really place myself there.

It is difficult to sort out your own performance if you have no competitive competitions and can never do a complete competition in training, as there is always a certain surprise effect in the competition.

How are the training conditions for Hyrox in Munich?

Basically, it is really not that easy to find a good location in Munich that has all of the training equipment available to many athletes and also at times that are compatible with normal working hours.

This is also one of the reasons why we don't have a permanent gym, but always have to look at which equipment we need and which location is available for it.

Thanks to Gympass, I can train in almost every studio and am therefore very flexible.

What is your advice to athletes who want to start using Hyrox?

I think for athletes who would like to start with the Hyrox, it is important to practice the workouts first and of course to run regularly.

Over time, everything should be combined and the duration of the training must increase steadily.

If you imagine that you are on the road with the Hyrox between approx. 60-90 minutes and really have absolutely no break, then you should be prepared for such a load duration, otherwise the competition will be very disgusting.

In addition to the physical prerequisites that one naturally has to create, the psyche also plays a decisive role.

The fitness level has to be there, but from a certain level your head decides how the competition will end.

At the Löwen you work as a club manager at e.

V. What about sports other than football?

Of course, the corona pandemic is very difficult for sports clubs, but I would like to thank you at this point to point out that we have really loyal members and are therefore still very well positioned.

The departments dealt with the pandemic differently, many trainers quickly got creative and offered online training, for example.

Nevertheless, of course, everyone was happy when the halfway normal sports could take place again.

It was gratifying that we were able to take up a new sport with fencing, for example, during the pandemic and, thanks to the cooperation with TSV Unterhaching, we now have a shared volleyball team.

So we grew even during the crisis.

The boxers have collected money to be able to start in the Bundesliga.

What is the current standing?

Our boxing department is very successful and even before Corona our goal was to have our own team in the Bundesliga.

Now the time has finally come, the dates of the league are set and we will start in the Bundesliga in January.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has not really had a positive effect on the search for sponsors and we are still looking for new partners to support our project.

Nevertheless, we dare to take the step and will start in 2022.

So everything is going well with the Lions and we are all happy to finally have a little more normality in training and competition.
