Bundesliga: Of all people, Fürth stops Lewandowski

A goal win against Greuther Fürth, who was actually so inferior, was Robert Lewandowski's distance from another Gerd Müller record. That didn't work. And otherwise the mood was not all rosy.

Scene of the game:

Robert Lewandowski scored in 15 games in a row in the Bundesliga, only one game was missing from Gerd Müller's record. But he didn't want to score against Fürth, and it would have been almost as far in the 68th minute: After a sharp free kick from Joshua Kimmich, Lewandowski fought in a duel with Fürth's Sebastian Griesbeck at the six-yard area in the direction of the ball - but he scored the goal Fürther, who poked the ball through the legs of his own goalkeeper. The Fürth seemed to want to prevent a Lewandowski hit at all costs.

Bad mood:

As it is for a real European top scorer, Lewandowski did not cheer Griesbeck's own goal, of course he would have preferred to score it himself.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said after the game that he didn't think Lewandowski would take it easy.

You know "that he is very greedy".

Nevertheless, teams like Fürth should smile at such problems.

The result:

Bayern achieved a victory even without a Lewandowski goal, winning 3-1 (2-0) in Franconia.

Thomas Müller (10th minute), Joshua Kimmich (31st), Griesbeck with an own goal (68th) and the Fürth Cedric Itten in the right goal (88th) scored the goals.

The starting point:

Comparisons of figures in football are mostly based on assumptions, seasonal budgets are usually not officially announced. But when Fürth's sports director Rachid Azzouzi speaks of "around 16 million euros", mind you for all players, you can roughly imagine the different spheres of the two clubs: Lewandowski alone earns a rumored 20 million euros annually. The spectators in the Ronhof jewelry box in Fürth must have felt like they were in an extraterrestrial encounter, after all, the leader of the all-time Bundesliga table met the leader of the all-time Bundesliga table.

First half:

Although Bayern led after a counterattack over Alphonso Davies, completed by Müller (10th), the financial class difference was not noticeable beyond that. Fürth acted bravely, ran high and put Bayern under such pressure that national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer produced an unusually large number of bad passes. But the truth is also that Bayern could have decided the game earlier. Lewandowski, on whom the Fürth team were so focused that they simply neglected the back space from around 20 meters (31st), as with Kimmichs 2-0, failed with a heel kung-fu insert on the crossbar (40th).

Cloverleaf anniversary:

Greuther Fürth was founded on September 23, 1903.

Against the Bavarians, the cloverleaf ran, as it also echoed from the stands against the Bavarians, in special jerseys with a golden coat of arms and golden numbers.

Second half:

When Kimmich said after the game, "that it wasn't necessarily a brilliant performance from us," he probably meant Benjamin Pavard's tackle in particular in the 48th minute: he hit Julian Green with an open sole in the legs.

Green was uninjured, Pavard saw red, which was not necessarily beneficial for the course of the game: The Bayern game was then even more focused on administration, after all, the Fürth team scored a consolation goal thanks to a creamy cross from Timothy Tillman followed by a header from Itten (88 .).

A team like no other:

Frenetic Bayern fans will have listened to the names Green and Tillman: Both come from the youth of the record champions.

How unusual this newcomer from Fürth is when, in addition to these players, who have had a good education but had to take the detour to the second division, someone like Dickson Abiama bustles around: The 22-year-old came to Germany and from Nigeria in 2016 played in the Nürnberg-Frankenhöhe district class at the Mögeldorf game association until 2018.

He came to Fürth last year via the regional and regional leagues, now the presumed career highlight: After being substituted on, there was applause from the stands for him, and once he even failed because of Manuel Neuer (82nd).
