During the run for the Supersport 300 World Championship in Jerez, Spain, the young Spanish driver Dean Berta Viñales had a fatal accident.
The only 15-year-old was involved in a mass fall in the first corner and suffered such severe head injuries that the doctors could no longer save him.
"We are sad to have to announce the death of Dean Berta Viñales," announced the organizers of the Superbike World Championship.
The teenager was part of the Viñales racing family.
He started for the team of Angel Viñales, the father of MotoGP rider Maverick Viñales.
In his debut season in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, he finished fourth in Magny-Cours and sixth in Barcelona-Catalunya.
As a reaction to the death of the young Spaniard, all further races at the World Championship round in Jerez on Saturday were canceled.
