It seems that the positive effect created by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo has already pretty much faded at Manchester United.
After the embarrassing loss to the Young Boys in the Champions League and the less terrible relegation by West Ham in the League Cup, Ola Gunnar Solskjaer's team was defeated today (Saturday) for the first time in the Premier League this season, when it surrendered at home to Aston Villa in a game that ended in great drama.
Manchester United lost to the team from Birmingham for the first time in 18 meetings in the English league, after absorbing in the 88th minute and seeing Bruno Fernandez throw for a penalty kick from 11 meters in extra time.
This is only the second time this has happened to the Portuguese midfielder since joining the Red Devils, out of 23 penalties he has kicked in total.

Ola Gunnar Solskjaer complained at the end: "I am very disappointed that Aston Villa's goal was scored from a different position. It is frustrating that there is such a decision against you. I do not understand how this goal and Lester did not get approval for its goals. I do not see consistency here.
On the penalty he said: "The decision Bruno was kicking was made before the game. Solskjaer's intention was apparently mainly for provocations on the part of Aston Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine, who also missed provoking the Colombian national team players in the penalty shootout in the Copa America semi-final about two months ago, challenged Cristiano Ronaldo to kick the penalty himself and after the miss danced provocatively in front of the Manchester United crowd.

Commentator Tim Sherwood claimed that Fernandez missed the penalty because of the pressure from the very presence of Ronaldo.
"The main man is here next to him and it goes into his head, it distorts his thinking," said the former Tottenham player and coach.
"He knows he has one chance, and only one."
