A week earlier, the Deisenhofers had lost 3-0 at SV Donaustauf, another title contender, this time they took command from the whistle and also had good chances: Augsburg goalkeeper Thomas Reichlmayr steered a free kick from Florian Schmid with his fingertips Latte (7th), then, after a nice combination, Schmid's cross pass in the five-meter space did not find a buyer (10th). The best chance of the first round had Michael Bachhuber, who easily let his guard out after a counterattack via Marco Finster, but just missed the far corner (20th).
The next mandatory action did not follow until the 44th minute, but it brought the 1-0: Niklas Sagner was knocked over after Bachhuber's heel pass, Marco Finster converted the due penalty with confidence.
The FCD immediately picked up speed again: Schmid missed a Sagner flank with an acrobatic jump, seconds later Nikolaos Gkasimpagiazov aimed from a distance just over the crossbar (45th + 2).
The Deisenhofner break was well deserved due to the almost complete control of the game.
The well-known guests, however, disappointed offensively across the board.
FCD goalkeeper Enrico Caruso only had to intervene halfway seriously in a sloppy Augsburg counterattack (37th).
That should change at least briefly after the change. The guests now seemed a bit more committed, but their captain Emre Arik (46th) didn't embarrass Caruso any more than Giovanni Goia (54th). Türkspor keeper Reichlmayr had more trouble with Nikolaos Gkasimpagiazov's 20-meter attempt (50th). Martin Mayer then celebrated how to properly lever the opponent with a dream solo and a sugar pass to Schmid, who overcame Reichlmayr from the turn with the left (56th).
After that it seemed to be very bitter for the guests: Gkasimpagiazov's next attempt at distance was on (66th), Schmid also hit from the edge of the penalty area (69th). With a little more consistency in the end, a higher victory would have been possible, but Sigurdsson was also so very satisfied: “In terms of attitude, speed, and willingness to run, it was absolutely outstanding. Sigurdsson's players clearly enjoyed this freedom.
“We were prepared for a very good team and maybe a bit surprised that they weren't quite as strong.
But we were mentally full and played good football for 90 minutes, ”said Schmid, who scored the double.
Martin Mayer certainly summed up the sunny afternoon in the spirit of his teammates: "Today was really fun."
