Costil puts Bordeaux on his back
If there is one who held his place this afternoon in Bordeaux, it is the captain.
Benoît Costil was vigilant on long shots from Jonas Martin (7th), Benjamin Bourigeaud (9th) and Martin Terrier (24th).
He was especially decisive up close against Gaëtan Laborde (20th), Kamaldeen Sulemana (27th) and again Terrier (29th).
He can do nothing on Laborde's goal and is working again against Birger Merling (62nd) and Terrier (73rd).
Without him, the Girondins would have sunk very quickly.
Rennes, all that was missing was the finish
With 64% possession of the ball and 8 shots including 5 on target at half-time, Rennes seemed on the right track.
Bordeaux no longer saw the light of day after a quarter of an hour of play, hampered by the high block of Rennais and their pressing to annihilate any opposing revival.
Above all, Benjamin Bourigeaud and Flavien Tait wandered between the Bordeaux lines.
Hamari Traoré brought breadth to the right, like Laborde's goal (54th).
The races of Laborde and Terrier in the back of the defense, like their placement in the box, would have deserved a larger score before the Gironde equalizer at the end of the match.

Flops
The Girondins did not offer anything
When the goalie is the best player on the team, it is often a bad sign.
If Rennes dominated the debates so much in the first period, it is because Bordeaux did not delight its audience at Matmut Atlantique.
It was not until the 51st minute for a shot on target and a semblance of thrill, through Thimothée Pembélé.
The right-back, who had entered his match well, tried to sound the revolt from the top of his 19 years.
Yacine Adli often seemed disconnected from the rest of his teammates, and especially from Hwang isolated at the top.
Wingers Samuel Kalu and Sékou Mara, who entered shortly after the hour mark, energized a Gironde team whose goal Mexer, on a deflected shot after a scramble on a corner, is like the collective performance.
Rennes had the game in hand, and then ...
Difficult to believe in the top 5 of Ligue 1 by offering points to his opponents. Stade Rennais had everything or almost everything after the hour mark, then gradually left the ball to the Girondins, yet amorphous until then. Bruno Genesio's coaching was a source of thought: the fiery winger Sulemana, who was gaining strength, was replaced by defensive midfielder Baptiste Santamaria in the 75th minute. The ex-Angevin will be warned 5 minutes later following a dangerous loss of ball and a foul on Sékou Mara. Loum Tchaouna (18) made his professional debut, replacing Gaëtan Laborde in the 83rd minute, in a match Rennes had yet to win. Rather than drive the point home and stay true to themselves, the Rouge et Noir have allowed Bordeaux to gain confidence and create even half chances. Enough to equalize and punish Rennes who did not play the game to the end.
