Last night (Sunday), Maccabi Netanya experienced one of the most difficult evenings it has had in recent years.
It started with an extraordinary incident between owner Eyal Segal and the police force present in the stadium, continued with curses and incessant calls from many of the team fans in the direction of coach Raymond Atfeld, continued with a painful home loss to Hapoel Hadera and if all that was not enough, an ugly and unnecessary incident was recorded between A number of officials from both clubs in the locker room complex, which almost escalated into physical violence.
Segal had a hard time recovering during the game and probably after it, from the incident he had with the police forces who were present at the stadium and were in charge of order at the venue. Even before the opening whistle, the staff noticed large queues of fans at the few entrances that were open in the stadium. According to sources present at the venue, the long queues were caused by the green mark tests and corona test approvals needed to enter, which led to delays in crowd entry and prevented a rapid flow of fans inside. The Netanya owner who noticed the matter, turned to the police force and from here the winds on both sides heated up and eventually, with the intervention of one of the senior officers, a staff member was asked to get into the car that was at the scene.
Staff were not arrested nor detained or taken for questioning.
A few minutes later he was released from the car and entered the stadium grounds, to his place in the stands, to watch his team.
"This is not how a club owner is treated," Netanya said angrily after the incident.
"It was possible to manage this matter differently, without putting Eyal in the car. Someone probably wanted to exercise some muscles and it didn't look good. Eyal's intentions were good and he, as one sitting with the other fans in the stands, tried to take care of others as well."

Now Netanya is expecting a much more difficult series of games, when after the away game in Sakhnin, the team will meet in a row the candidates for the Maccabi Tel Aviv, Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Beer Sheva championships.
The team's management has decided not to make hasty decisions at this stage and if Atfeld "survives" the coming week, he also knows that another loss of the team against Bnei Sakhnin, may lead to the termination of his position.
The list of coaches who are out there is quite long.
Currently Slobodan Drapic, Shai Barda, Haim Sylves and Kobi Refuah, are sitting at home without a group.
In a certain situation, the assistant coach of the national team, Marco Belbul, may also join the list of those available for the position, if and when this passes the approval of the Football Association.
