Farewell after 67 years: The Dreisamstadion in Freiburg is retiring

Goodbye, Dreisamstadion:
SC Freiburg was based in the Dreisamstadion for 67 years, with more than 750 first and second division matches taking place there.
With the end of the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg, the jewelery box retired, and on October 16, Freiburg will play against RB Leipzig in the new arena, the Europa-Park stadium in the north-west of the city.
The farewell to Augsburg was not only an emotional one, but also a successful one.
The result:
3-0 led the Breisgauer at the break.
It stayed with this result.
Lukas Kübler (6th minute), Lucas Höler (25th) and Vincenzo Grifo (penalty, 34th) scored the goals.
One last time uphill:
a trip to the Dreisamstadion was mostly not a pleasure for away teams. Freiburg striker Nils Petersen once said about the time when he was not yet playing for SC: “I used to hate Freiburg. (...) You fly somewhere, then have to drive forever, feel like you're outside of Germany and then play in this small arena - half uphill, half downhill. «In fact, the place in Freiburg has its special features: its dimensions are smaller than the standard stipulates, a special permit is required, and the field drops by one meter in the direction of the Dreisam in the north of the stadium.
First half: In
the first round, coach Christian Streich's team showed that they have come to terms with the events in Freiburg. Mind you, Freiburg played the Augsburgers apart at will. A wonderful interface pass from Höler in Christian Günter's run overcame the guest defense, Kübler scored in the margin (6th). Maximilian Eggestein's pass in front of Höler's goal (15th), which played outstandingly in the first half, was even nicer. After a hand penalty, Grifo decided the game before the break from the penalty spot (32nd).
The architect:
How special this SC Freiburg is can only be seen from the club's employee history. Since 1991, the Dreisamstadion has only seen four SC Freiburg coaches. Streich has been in office since 2011 and brought European football to the Waldsee district of Freiburg, among other things. The architect of the Freiburg success of recent years can also enjoy buildings - or not: "I don't like these stadiums in which such a strange corporate identity is somehow represented in every place and on every toilet seat," said Streich of the " Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung «. Streich praised the new home to the newspaper, however, that it "didn't look so furniture-like".
Second half:
Augsburg experienced in two acts how difficult it can be to play as an away team in Freiburg. The first half showed that already well, but the second maybe a little better: With the deficit, Augsburg had to play this famous meter uphill, hardly once did the Fuggerstadt team achieve anything offensively. Instead, they had to thank their goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz that the defeat did not turn out to be greater. While the Augsburgers are gradually finding themselves in the battle for relegation, the Freiburg team jump to fifth at the end of the day.
Epilogue:
Although Christian Streich likes the new stadium, after the final whistle he seemed to understand that nothing is as beautiful as home.
Streich cried, he never trained anywhere else.
After the game he even went to the fan block, but before that he quickly put on a mouth and nose mask and played the "Humba" that is so popular with footballers after victories.
But not without being instructed by fans, sometimes for seconds, about the correct text or the correct letter.
At the end of the day, the goal scoring in the Dreisamstadion was not quite complete: Freiburg scored a total of 999 goals there.
