In the coming year there will be a clash between European soccer champions Italy and South America winners Argentina.
The European Football Union Uefa and the South American Association Conmebol agreed on this, as Uefa announced.
The game is scheduled to take place in June 2022 and is part of an expanded partnership between the two associations.
The two most important continental associations also intend to work more closely together in the areas of women's football, futsal, youth, the exchange of referees and technical training programs.
The duel between the European champions and the Copa winners is initially planned to be three editions.
The fact that Conmebol and Uefa are strengthening their relationship should not please the world football association Fifa with regard to the World Cup plans.
Fifa wants to host the most important football tournament every two instead of four years.
Uefa and Conmebol had spoken out against it.
The two associations also want to open a joint office for the coordination of projects and "will continue to work together in the future on other issues of common interest".
