The German extreme athlete Jonas Deichmann has finished the longest section of his triathlon around the world in Mexico after almost four months of completing a marathon distance every day.
Accompanied by numerous fans, the 34-year-old from the Black Forest reached the beach in the holiday resort of Cancun on Monday.
Like Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump in the US film of the same name, Deichmann wore a red cap from the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company - and a long beard.

“Every day had a surprise in store. That's the fantastic thing about this country. First the desert, then the mountains, then the tropical rainforest. But what pleased me most were the people. It was just a huge party. "
Deichmann is still about 3,500 kilometers away on his bike to reach his goal of circumnavigating the world with a 120-fold Ironman triathlon.
According to his own statements, this would set world records for the - by far - longest extreme triathlon and for the first around the world.
From Cancún Deichmann wants to continue by boat to Portugal and from there complete the remaining bike kilometers to Munich.
With his trip around the world he collects donations - to give bicycles to children in Africa who have a long way to school.
