Problem: There was no optimal solution to the trainer question.

Freising

- For the basketball players of TSV Jahn Freising, the season starts on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the sports hall of the Karl-Meichelbeck-Realschule.

"We are all very excited about what awaits us after we have been promoted to the regional league", emphasizes Jahn department head Michaela Ruis before the game against TSV Unterhaching.

The 3G rule applies to viewers.

In the 2019/20 season, the Jahn basketball players fought their way up to the regional league.

After that, due to the corona, there was a compulsory break for almost a year.

“We met online during lockdown to keep in touch.

But we weren't able to play together again until June, ”says Michaela Ruis, head of the division and team spokeswoman, looking back.

Corona pandemic makes it difficult to find a trainer

Getting back to work was not that easy. Main reason: Florian Brückner had stated for a long time that, for professional and private reasons, he no longer had the time to take on the role of coach. Those responsible then went looking for a coach, outside of the club and also within. So far in vain. "During the pandemic, it has also become very difficult for many other clubs to find new coaches," says Ruis. Denis Rühmann and Tim Peisker then took over training units from their own department. In addition to Julia Grabenweger (deputy head of department), the long-term injured Franziska Müller and Anne Nitzsche-Baumann, they are available as coaches for one game or another. But these solutions are not optimal, admits Michaela Ruis.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

At the moment, she cannot yet estimate whether the promise to compete in the regional league was correct.

"The association has restructured the leagues and even offered us to play in the Bayernliga," reveals the department head.

“We then refused.” However, the team decided to tackle the regional league adventure.

“If it turns out that we don't have the level of performance for this class, then we'll be relegated.

That's not so bad. "

Two young talents in the Jahn team

There have been some changes in terms of personnel. Verena Häusl, Ulla Moschek, Anne Nitzsche-Baumann and Franziska Müller have just said goodbye to active basketball. Above all, the absence of Müller is painful, says Ruis. So far, she has been the linchpin as a development player. The two young talents Marlene Babl (17) and Carla Sabau (16) are new to the team. Ruis hopes that the two will make the leap from youth to adulthood quickly. They have the potential to do so.

When asked whether the team will start the season in good shape, Michaela Ruis has to laugh.

Due to the corona pandemic, intensive preparation had only been possible since the beginning of school - i.e. only when the secondary school sports hall was available again.

"What is currently more important is that we get along very well within the team and that there is great solidarity."

Michaela Ruis cannot currently estimate how strong the regional league is.

“It could well be that one or the other team is roughly our performance level,” suspects the Jahn division manager.

The home game on Sunday afternoon against TSV Unterhaching could give a first indication of where the Freising team stands.
