Eran Zehavi tonight (Saturday) equaled the record of Motla Spiegler and joined him as the king of the goals of the Israeli national team of all time, thanks to the spectacular free kick for Scotland in the fifth minute. Spiegler's 32nd and final goal was against Thailand in May 1973, and now, after 48 years, he is no longer the sole record holder.
Zehavi reached 32 goals in 67 games for the team (Spiegler recorded 83 appearances) but everything changed from the moment he returned in September 2018, a year after the captain's armband was thrown in a loss to Northern Macedonia at the stadium in Haifa. Although he did not score in the comeback appearance (a 1-0 loss in Albania in the League of Nations) but a little more than two months later allowed in a friendly match against Guatemala and also in a 2: 3 home draw against Scotland in the League of Nations, scoring 25 goals in the last 27 games. Everyone, by the way, after crossing the age of 30.
The 34-year-old star has scored a hat-trick in four different games (all official).
By comparison, before returning to the national uniform (and before the Austrian era), Zahavi had only six goals in 39 games - all individually, and two of them on penalties.

This achievement joins the record that was broken by Zahavi last month, when he overtook Alon Mizrahi (334 goals) as the greatest scorer of Israeli football in all settings.
In addition, Zehavi overtook Mons Dabour and is the Israeli top scorer in European enterprises with 31 conquests.
