The ice hockey teams of TuS and ESC Geretsried have risen a few times.

But they also won several regional and national championships - the men became German regional league champions in 1978, the women even German champions in 1994.

1967 and 1970 champion in the district class

After the establishment of the ice sports division in TuS, the men (and later also the youth and school teams) went hunting for points in the district class for a long time.

The team, which was temporarily trained by the Tölzer ex-national player Jakob Probst, shuttled between places four and six.

In 1967 they won their first title in Group III, but had to admit defeat in the promotion round Eibsee-Grainau (2: 7, 0: 8).

Three years later, however, the league was successful, for which the ice hackers rewarded themselves with a final trip to Berlin including two friendlies and victories against a selection from Hertha BSC and Berliner SC.

The club established itself in the national league in the following years.

Again there was a guest trainer from Bad Tölz, namely the Czech ex-international Ladislav Oljenik.

The arena, which was converted into an artificial ice stadium, was inaugurated on December 23, 1973 with a 3: 3 draw against TSV Schliersee.

At the end of the round of points, TuS was at the very front with 13: 7 points and was promoted to the newly created Regionalliga Süd due to an association decision.

Head of department Jakob Ehgartner gave the team uniform club jackets with matching ties and a set of new jerseys.

German champion of the regional leagues 1978

After two successful years, the club even moved up as third in the table in the Oberliga Süd, from which they were relegated as the bottom of the table.

The TuS presented itself better positioned for the following season with Helmut Eberhard from EC Bad Tölz as player-coach and the American Dave Snyder (a lumberjack from San Diego / California) as the first contingent player in the club's history.

As second in the table, the team around captain Horst Krisch qualified for the promotion round to the league, where they remained unbeaten in ten games.

So it came on March 19, 1978 to the final of the German Regional League Championship against GSV Moers.

At home they celebrated a 13-5 triumph and brought the title to Geretsried with a 6-1 win in the second leg in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Bayern Cup 1991 and 1992

The next titles were a long time coming. After a difficult initial phase, the TuS established itself in the Oberliga Süd, but had the luck, for example, in 1980 as bottom of the table, that the division was increased and they were not relegated. A milestone in the chronicle was June 17, 1983. Because the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) wanted to divide the 2nd Bundesliga into a north and a south group, participants were still needed. Here the team around their player-coach Hans Rothkirch, who had returned to the Oberland after successful years at the Cologne EC, was awarded the contract. The first season struck a great moment for the TuS: With 7: 5 in the derby the old master EC Bad Tölz was brought to its knees.Motivated in this way, Geretsrieder were the first in the qualifying round to win a ticket for another season in the 2nd Bundesliga South. In the second year, however, a lot went wrong: players and coaches came and went, and in the end there was relegation. At the same time, the 1b team, which was almost exclusively made up of local players, had established itself in such a way that the department head around Oskar Janka decided to withdraw the first team and start with the "reserve" in the regional league. 1987 succeeded in returning to the league, where from then on counted among the established clubs.that the department management around Oskar Janka decided to withdraw the first team and start with the "reserve" in the regional league. 1987 succeeded in returning to the league, where from then on counted among the established clubs.that the department management around Oskar Janka decided to withdraw the first team and start with the "reserve" in the regional league. 1987 succeeded in returning to the league, where from then on counted among the established clubs.

The next two title wins fell in 1991 and 1992.

Under coach Horst Valasek, TuS won the newly created Bayern Cup when they fought down SC Memmingen in front of 2,000 spectators at home.

In the next season, the Geretsrieder secured the Bayern Cup again with a 6-2 win at Heilbronner EC and also came first in the Oberliga Süd.

Hubert Jellen and Co. won the first leg of the German Oberliga championship against ETC Timmendorfer Strand 6: 5, but clearly lost out on the Baltic Sea with 2:12.

Because of restructuring, there was no promoter this time.

It couldn't be better: The women's team "Moskitos" brought the German championship to Geretsried in 1994.

German women's champion in 1994

The mid-1990s were a successful time for Geretsried ice hockey. The men competed in the second-rate "Hacker-Pschorr League" against all traditional Bavarian clubs, the juniors started in the U20 Bundesliga, and with Andreas Morczinietz and Marco Flügel they had two U18 national players in their own ranks. In the meantime, a Geretsrieder women's team that had been founded in 1986 had also played itself in the foreground nationally. After a few years in the women's Bundesliga, the Moskitos hit the jackpot in 1994: Under the direction of coach Alfons Hitzenbichler, they first won the Bavarian, then the South German and ultimately even the German championship title. In the final tournament, Christina Oswald and Co. first defeated OSC Berlin-Schöneberg 10: 2, but had against hosts Mannheimer ERC with 3:4 neglect. A 4-2 success in the semifinals opened the Geretsrieder entry into the final, so they returned the favor at Mannheim with a 5-4 victory.

From 1995 to 2001 the mosquitoes qualified for the final tournament every year and won three silver and bronze medals.

In the summer of 2001 the team was disbanded;

quite a few players switched to SC Riessersee.

Not to be forgotten: After the re-establishment of the ESC, a women's team was also brought back to life, which was three times Bavarian regional league champions between 2015 and 2018.

TuS Geretsried / Moskitos 1994:

Alin Fischhaber (gate);

Christina Oswald, Rosi Strobl, Andrea Weißbach, Steffi Frühwirt, Martina Weiss, Claudia Scholz, Renate Iffelsberger, Ute Fuchs, Elke Peters, Wiltrud Schmid, Ute Tschersich, Gabi Wörschhauser, Carolin König, Andrea Rieger, Manuela Hirt, Gudrun Fuchs.

Champion of the District League South 2007

In the years that followed, the club shuttled between regional and major leagues. In 1999 the first team was spun off into a GmbH, which was dissolved again in 2003. Similar to the times of the second division, a 1b team had now been promoted to the Bavarian League, whose starting place was finally taken by the River Rats. In the spring of 2006, the members of the previous TuS ice sports division founded the ESC Geretsried. Because the right to play in the Bayern League automatically expired, the new club started from the bottom up. Another handicap: Because public buildings throughout Bavaria were checked as a result of the Bad Reichenhall ice rink accident, the city had to remove the roof of the Heinz Schneider ice rink, which was apparently in danger of collapsing.

But already in the first season in the open air, the troop put together by coach Robert Morczinietz from local veterans, returnees and juniors dominated the District League South.

However, with the SC Gaißach and the EHC Bad Aibling there were two stubborn opponents for the championship and the only promotion place.

There was a real final on February 4, 2007 at the Aibdogs.

350 spectators attended, at least 150 of them from Geretsried.

The guests took the lead, but then the Aibling team moved away 4-2.

Two overpaid goals in the final third and strong nerves in the final minutes were enough for the River Rats to draw a 4: 4.

While still on the ice and then in the parlor at home, the new club's first title was extensively celebrated.

ESC Geretsried 2007:

Sascha Bergelt, Kevin Olivo (both goal);

Tobias Stowasser, Christian Ott, Manfred Hörl, Hans Hansch, Thorsten Patzelt, Alexander Neuchl, Michael Stowasser, Nino Poch, Martin Köhler, Florian Gschwendtner, Alexander Horwath, Florian Seitz, Florian Schneider, Peter Kraus, Kai Arkuszewski, Martin Veitenhansl, Christoph Lück , Moritz Lauer and Andreas Herrmann.

Champion of the Landesliga SW 2015

For eight years, the River Rats finally gondolaed through the Landesliga Südwest - sometimes with more, sometimes with less success. In 2009, the ESC also leased the ice rink because the city was no longer willing to cope with the rising operating costs. In 2014, the River Rats failed as second in the preliminary round in the promotion round to the Bayernliga. The following year it should finally work with ex-professional Franz-Xaver Ibelherr on the gang. But on the home stretch, the taciturn instructor and his team fell out. A trio consisting of the long-term injuries Kevin Olivo and Martin Köhler as well as young coach Christian Ott took over the command and led the team to the title with an 8-2 victory at SC Reichersbeuern (February 13, 2015).

But in order to get promoted to the Bayern League, the River Rats had to sit down properly.

In the play-off semifinals they prevailed against Vilshofen (2: 1, 8: 6), but were twice behind in the final against feared opponent Pegnitz (2: 4, 1: 4).

However, the ESC grabbed the second chance and managed against Moosburg (7: 0, 1: 2) the longed-for return to the top Bavarian division, which also corresponds to the former Regionalliga Süd.

ESC Geretsried 2015:

David Albanese, Jennifer Begander, Sascha Bergelt, Moritz Erdwig, Michael Iszovics, Kevin Olivo (all goal);

Andreas Hölzl, Bernhard Jorde, Matthias Lederer, Daniel Leubecher, Georg Meiller jun., Nino Poch, Michael Wiedenbauer;

Klaus Berger, Daniel Bursch, Daniel Deglmann, Andreas Dornbach, Sebastian Geltinger, Michael Helfrich, Ondrej Horvath, Jonas Köhler, Martin Köhler, Moritz Lauer, Florian Lechner, Dominik Meierl, Simon Pappers, Hans Tauber jr ..
