After many months there was another face-to-face tournament for the wheel gymnasts in the Free State.

The Jahnhalle in Weilheim was the venue - and the local athletes were in great shape.

Weilheim - It's a paradox: women and men do not have direct physical contact with their opponents when doing gymnastics.

A competition also runs in such a way that there is always a lot of distance to all those involved - trainers and judges.

And yet, due to Corona, nothing worked in this sport for a year and a half in Bavaria.

The Jahnhalle in Weilheim recently hosted the first on-site tournament in around one and a half years: the southern German championship.

The location was chosen on the one hand because the TSV division has already organized several such national competitions and on the other hand because the hygiene regulations required a certain size of the hall.

Gymnastics championship in the Weilheimer Jahnhalle

For the gymnasts from Weilheim, the whole thing had the advantage that they could do without a long journey.

From a sporting point of view, things went well: in the youth, the Weilheimers won a complete set of medals, in the adults, the two TSV gymnasts qualified for the German championship.

Julia Durmann (age group 13/14) did "very well with her exercises" in all three disciplines (straight, spiral and jump), according to the TSV in a press release. Especially in straight gymnastics, she got a lot of points, "although she did not show the full difficulty". A clean execution of the elements helped her to achieve the best result by far (8.05). With a total of 20.10 points, she won the gold medal well ahead of Lena Lyding (Hessen / 19.35).

For Valentina Hammer, silver jumped out of the 15- and 16-year-olds. After she made a mistake during the jump and got the lowest rating of all nine participants, it was time to catch up. With a good spiral exercise and a strong straight freestyle, in which she got the best result in her class, the leap forward succeeded. In the end, with 23.0 points, only three tenths were missing for gold.

Celina Sinner had it in the age group 17/18 with national team athletes.

Both in the jump and in the spiral, she did her exercises well and cleanly.

She made a major mistake in the straight freestyle.

But her lead over her direct competition was so great that she still won bronze.

All three TSV gymnasts have sovereignly qualified for the German youth championship, which will be held in Essen at the end of October.

Stefanie Peisker makes a good debut among the adults

On the second day of the southern German championship, Stefanie Peisker made a special appearance - she made her adult debut. In the disciplines "jump" and "spiral" she called off her capabilities. On top of that, Stefanie Peisker, the sister of world champion Karina Peisker, presented her new musical freestyle, which, however, suffered a fall. Overall, "she made her debut with the adults", according to the TSV: With 21.30 points she was tenth and qualified for the DM. Xenia Selbach also fulfilled the standard for the championship at national level in seventh (22.80). She also got through the jump and spiral effortlessly, but had some difficulties in the musical freestyle. Gold went to Lilia Lessel (31.05) from SG Grün-Weiß-Darmstadt,who won gold in the spiral as well as with the team at the 2018 World Cup in Switzerland.

Even if the adult title went to Hesse, the gymnasts from the Free State were convincing.

In seven classes they won nine medals (4 x gold / 1 x silver / 4 x bronze).

The BTV spoke of the most successful southern German championship in Bavarian gymnastics history.
