Coppi, Merckx, Hinault, Pogacar. The young Slovenian, winner of the Tour of Lombardy, invited himself into a prestigious closed circle. Only Eddy Merckx had (in 1971 and 1972), won the same year the Tour de France and the Tour of Lombardy. Only Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault had, during their careers, crowned the laurels of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour de France and the Tour de Lombardie. Only Fausto Coppi (1949) and Eddy Merckx (1969, 1971 and 1972) had won the Tour de France and two “Monuments” (Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour Lombardy) in the same season.
