Soccer: Ralf Rangnick brings Markus Gisdol to Lokomotiv Moscow as a trainer

Ex-Bundesliga coach Markus Gisdol has found a new job after being kicked out at 1. FC Köln. His sponsor Ralf Rangnick, sports director at Lokomotiv Moscow, pulls the 52-year-old over to Russia.

Ralf Rangnick, who has been the sports director at Lokomotiv Moscow since the summer, has installed an old friend as a trainer.

Markus Gisdol, dismissed from Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln in April, will, according to the club, "in the near future" will be the head coach of the three-time Russian champions.

Lokomotive with the ex-Leverkusen defender Tin Jedvaj is represented as the reigning cup winner in the Europa League, in the league the traditional club occupies fourth place in the table after ten matchdays.

Lokomotive had separated from the Serbian Marko Nikolić earlier this month.

The 52-year-old Gisdol became head coach at TSG Hoffenheim in 2013, from September 2016 to January 2018 he coached Hamburger SV.

He was signed in Cologne in November 2019 and had saved the club from relegation thanks to a strong comeback.

In the 2020/2021 season he had to be 17th in the table.

left the club after 28 of 34 match days.

Rangnick and Gisdol have worked together several times in the past: Under head coach Rangnick, Gisdol was the coach of the second team at TSG Hoffenheim and assistant at Schalke 04.
