The NBA season is just around the corner - and one of the dominating topics in US basketball is the case of Kyrie Irving.
The basketball player, who was initially disregarded by the Brooklyn Nets because of his unclear vaccination status, is not thinking of an end to his career despite the ongoing dispute.
The 29-year-old commented on the rumors for the first time on Instagram.
“Don't think I'll retire.
Don't think I'll give up this game for a compulsory vaccination, ”Irving says in the clip.
“I do what is best for me.
I know the consequences and if that means that I will be judged and demonized for it, then that's the way it is, ”he continues.
“Do you really think I want to quit my job?
I stand for so many things that are bigger than this game, and right now it's not just about basketball, "said Irving on Thursday in an emotional video to his fans that was broadcast by" Sky Sport News ".
"It's not always about the money, but about making the best decision."
It is about »helping your fellow human beings to understand that they have a choice.
But this is my life.
I can do what I want with it. «His decision has» nothing to do with the organization or the Nets or with the other players «.
The city of New York, where the Nets are based, requires indoor athletes to provide proof of vaccination.
Even for an NBA star like Irving, there is no exception.
Therefore, he will not be taken into account for training and match operations for the time being, as the team announced.
Irving had stressed over and over that his vaccination status was a private matter.
The Nets had stated in a statement published on Tuesday that they are planning without the native Australian until he meets the requirements to be a "full participant" again.
Team from Brooklyn is considered one of the title favorites
There is also speculation in the US media whether the Nets could consider swapping players to move Irving to another team.
In many other US states, less strict corona rules apply, so Irving could theoretically accrue.
However, a swap partner would first have to be found who can get used to Irving's behavior and his extremely lucrative contract.
The Nets have so far been considered a favorite for the title due to the density of top players.
In addition to Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden are also in the roster of the Nets, the trio was brought in to bring the title to Brooklyn.
The Nets play their first game of the season on October 20 against the reigning champions from Milwaukee.
