Without captain Hector, 1. FC Köln tried to keep up with the leaders at TSG Hoffenheim - and failed terribly. TSG almost stopped their own Bundesliga record win.

1. FC Köln lost their away game at TSG Hoffenheim 0: 5 (0: 1) in the Bundesliga. Ihlas Bebou (31st minute / 49th) initiated TSG's home success with a double, Christoph Baumgartner (51st), Dennis Geiger (74th) and Stefan Posch (87th) made the result even clearer. The Hoffenheim runaway victory had not appeared in the previous weeks: Under new coach Steffen Baumgart, the Cologne team were previously only defeated by FC Bayern Munich in a narrow game, while Sebastian Hoeneß 'Hoffenheimer had only been able to win one of the six league games.

In Cologne, the lack of two top performers on the defensive was particularly noticeable: the sick captain Jonas Hector had signed off for the game at short notice, midfielder Ellyes Skhiri, who has already scored three times this season and gives the Cologne game stability in front of the defensive chain , missing with a knee injury. Nonetheless, the guests kept up well for half an hour. Then Hoffenheim's playmaker Andrej Kramarić found Bebou with a through pass, and the attacker set the course for the rest of the game with his opening goal (31st).

After the break, Bebou scored the second hit with the hoe (49th), Baumgartner from close range already made the preliminary decision (51st).

TSG almost stopped their own Bundesliga record win against guests who were still harmless offensively and defensively now overwhelmed: a 6-0 win on March 31, 2018, also against Cologne.

In any case, FC remains Hoffenheim's favorite opponent, and the club has won all of the last seven games against Cologne.

In the table, the teams are moving closer together, with Hoffenheim in eighth place just one point behind 1. FC Köln.
