Russian world number two Daniil Medvedev withdrew from the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament scheduled in the capital, Moscow.
Medvedev, 25, made the decision as he struggled with accumulated fatigue at the end of a difficult season.
The Kremlin Cup will be held in Moscow from 16 to 24 of this month.
Medvedev played 61 matches this year, winning 50 and losing 11.
Medvedev, who beat world number one Novak Djokovic in the US Open final last month to win his first grand slam title, was suddenly knocked out a few days ago from the fourth round in Indian Wells, losing to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
