Argentinian like the six-fold Golden Ball, François (Jorge Mario Bergoglio by his real name) has always admired Messi.

In 2019, during an interview with Spanish television, the Sovereign Pontiff launched: “Messi is a god with the ball”.

“In theory, it's a sacrilege, tempered Pope Francis.

You can't say it, but I don't think so (let it be sacrilege) (…) These are expressions of the people.

He's a god with the ball on the field.

These are popular ways of expressing yourself.

It's nice to see how he plays.

But it is not God ”.

In April 2013, Messi was received at the Vatican by Pope Francis, to whom he had already presented an Argentina jersey.
