Former footballer Paul Merson wrote a column in "Sky" in which he attacked the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United, or rather: wondered about it.
"Manchester United is not a team, I'm sorry," Merson wrote, "it's a bunch of individuals who play their own game as and when it suits them. "The current Star United do not look like they can win together. It does not work as a team. I do not care if you have the 11 best players who have ever played, you will not win anything without a plan.
" In the end it all comes down to the coach.
Ola Gunnar Solskjaer does not know what his best team is and that is worrying.
There is a tactical inconsistency.
There are no offensive patterns, no consistent method, like the ones we see from Manchester City or Liverpool.
"You're pretty surprised when you see United take over, it's like coming from nowhere."

On Ronaldo, Merson wrote: "He is not doing anything on offense, just standing and waiting because he can not move players anymore. United's attacking players are scared, they give the ball to Ronaldo and hope he will do something. But if you place him as a striker, you have to understand that he will not run behind the defensive line.
"I do not blame Ronaldo, it is the coach's responsibility to adopt a method that will help him in the game. Ronaldo is great, but he is not getting enough service. "Gideon Sancho does not pass wide balls, Greenwood wants to come in and kick, Bruno Fernandez and Paul Pogba want to go around the wall and Ronaldo does not get the ball in the area where he should get it."
Merson continued: "Manchester United have brought in all these players and you are scratching your head to see if Solskjaer knows where he is putting them. To this day I do not understand Ronaldo's signing. With a hand on heart, Manchester United would go for him if Mentz "Star City were not in the picture? Was Ronaldo going to City at all or did he just use it to return to United? I'm not 100% convinced that Solskjaer wanted Ronaldo. "I should have known. I think Solskjaer saw an opportunity to win without Ronaldo and continue from there, but United did not win and everyone was upset."
