Gerard Pique scored a precious goal to give Barcelona a difficult 1-0 victory at home to Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League and keep the Spanish side's hopes of qualifying for the playoffs today.
Pique converted a cross from Jordi Alba with a direct shot to the goal in the 36th minute to score Barcelona's first goal in the tournament this season and achieve the club's first victory after losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich and Benfica in the first two rounds of the group stage.
Ronald Koeman's team advanced to third place in Group E with three points, one point behind Benfica and three behind the German club, before they meet them later today.
Barcelona received another boost when new striker Sergio Aguero came on as a substitute late in the second half and appeared to have fully recovered from the calf injury he sustained before the start of the season following his move from Manchester City.
The Argentine international is scheduled to participate in the Spain summit against Real Madrid next Sunday.
