Steve Bruce is no longer coach of Newcastle United.
The Premier League club announced two weeks after the takeover by a consortium supported by Saudi Arabia.
Accordingly, Bruce left the association by "mutual agreement" after he had been in office since July 2019.
The Premier League announced earlier this month that Newcastle had been sold to a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia.
The team is on a relegation zone after eight match days.
Bruce had said after the change of ownership that he would understand if he was replaced, but he was allowed to lead the 1,000th game of his managerial career when Newcastle lost 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
"I am grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for giving me the opportunity to lead this unique football club," Bruce said, according to a statement from the club.
»Above all, I would like to thank my coaching team, the players and the coaches for their hard work.
There were ups and downs, but even in difficult moments they gave everything and should be proud of their achievements. "
Bruce, a former Manchester United defender, was not very popular with the club's supporters because he had previously coached rival Sunderland.
The Newcastle fans also saw in him a deterioration compared to his predecessor Rafa Benítez.
In the 3-2 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday, fans already demanded the dismissal of Bruce.
Assistant coach Graeme Jones will temporarily take over the team for the game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The search for a new head coach is ongoing and the appointment will be announced in due course, Newcastle said.
