The Formula 1 World Championship lands in the United States with the grand prix of the same name to be held this weekend in Austin.
This return of the discipline on the occasion of the 17th round of the 2021 season coincides with that of the stars of the parquet floors under the baskets this week.
On this occasion, Formula One has entered into a partnership with the prestigious basketball league which is celebrating its 75th anniversary by offering very successful shots of single-seaters redecorated with the colors and logos of North American basketball franchises.
This purely virtual screening will have a real follow-up in the paddock since the Formula 1 teams will compete on the Texan circuit on a field during a challenge which will allow an association to receive a check for 200,000 dollars.
Team personnel will compete in a free throw competition and the winner will have the privilege of nominating the association of their choice.
A single-seater championship with football clubs created in 2008
Single-seaters defending the colors of clubs, the idea had emerged on the track a few years ago with the creation of a competition, the Superleague Formula, a championship featuring single-seaters representing renowned football teams.
Olympique Lyonnais, Girondins de Bordeaux, AC Milan, Flamengo, Liverpool, Atlético Madrid in particular had thus embarked on this adventure in which Sébastien Bourdais had participated as a pilot but which ultimately lasted only four seasons.
