The organizers of the Vendée Globe unveiled, this Thursday, the race notice for the next edition of the solo round-the-world race, the start of which will be given on Sunday 10 November 2024 in Les Sables d'Olonne. Up to 40 boats will be the starting line (they were 33 in 2020). Unheard of since the creation of the event in 1989 in which 13 monohulls had participated. To qualify, sailors must participate in two single-handed races in the Imoca Championship, the first before the end of 2023 and the second in 2024. This requirement applies to all candidates, including new boat skippers. This qualification must also be carried out at the helm of the candidate monohull for the round the world.
With undoubtedly more applicants than free places on the pontoon, the organizer will make a selection to fill the 40 places available according to different criteria (see below).
Registrations will open on February 14, 2022, 1,000 days before the cannon firing, and will close on July 1, 2024.
