Dorfen - After the corona-related forced break last weekend - Waldkraiburg had to cancel the home game against the ESC at short notice, as did Schweinfurt the game in Dorfen - the ice pirates are challenged twice again this weekend.
Tonight at 8 p.m. ESC Geretsried will be in the Dr.-Rudolf-Halle, and on Sunday the people from Isenstadt will be at EA Schongau at 5 p.m.
The ice pirates are hoping for the first points of the season today, although the River Rats from Geretsried have often proven to be less than comfortable opponents in the past.
The team of coach Rudi Sternkopf started the points round with a bang.
In the home derby, the River Rats defeated the declared favorite TEV Miesbach 6: 5 after a penalty shootout.
In the meantime, however, the Isartaler are still in twelfth place with just two points.
Because after the surprising opening success, there were away defeats in Schongau (2: 3), Peißenberg and (2: 4) and Klostersee (2: 6).
Last weekend, today's two opponents suffered the same fate: the game against Waldkraiburg was canceled at both clubs because the Lions had a suspected Corona case in their team.
Overall, the Geretsrieder are well positioned. In addition to their experienced goalkeeper Martin Morczinietz, the young goalie Maximilian Freytag was signed by the DNL youth team of SC Riessersee. Johanna May is also in the squad as a backup. Of the two Czechs, only Marek Haloda is currently available for attack because the long-time top scorer Ondrej Horvath injured his hand in the last preparatory game and is still out for a few weeks.
Since the start of the season, the ice pirates have not only been fighting against top teams, but also permanently with flu and injured people.
The list of injuries around Gasper Susanj and Tomas Vrba, who should be back soon, as well as captain Christian Göttlicher, will now be joined by the dangerous attacker Lukas Kirsch for a few weeks.
In addition, a few other ailing and flu sufferers had to largely fit in with the training units.
"Since the beginning of the season, I haven't been able to train with the entire rows once," said head coach Franz Steer.
