Catching up after 1: 5 deficit comes too late: Tölzer Löwen lose 4: 6 against Selb.
Bad Tölz - Mercilessly countered: Too far away from the opponent, defensively often not in the picture: Before they knew it, the Tölzer Löwens ran after the previous bottom of the table and promoted Selber Wölfe a 0: 3 deficit. Because not much changed after a short riot, the gap grew to 1: 5. only then did the lions begin to play and fight, the chase made up for the weak performance before. At 4: 5 it was even exciting. "But the hockey god does not reward anyone who has done nothing in the first third," says coach Kevin Gaudet, who would have expected the end of his birthday differently.
“I've seen the worst first third since I've been here,” says the 58-year-old.
“We weren't ready at all, we thought it would work by itself.” Two warning shots should normally be enough.
But the Tölzer Löwen allowed themselves to be countered cheerfully after the first two goals conceded by the newcomer, needed another goal and a penalty from the guests to show something like resistance at all.

Nevertheless, the Tölzer played far too complicated and inefficient. And it wasn't until the third power play in the middle section that the target crossed the line for the first time. But because the Tölzer were far too far away from the opponent and did not really know how to deal with the attack by the wolves, they were soon 1: 5 behind. Gaudet: "We took stupid penalties, made mistakes and paid for them."
The mistakes ran through all parts of the team.
Goalkeeper Marco Wölfl was at least responsible for the 0: 3 when he lost his orientation after a shot and did not clear the free disc in front of the rushing Richard Gelke.
After all, Wölfl later remained the winner in the penal duel against Gelke.
The second hit was far outnumbered when the lions lost their strength and they could no longer withstand the pressure.
Disks were also lost during construction, which Selb used to restore the old distance when Steven Deeg pushed in without being forced from the rotation.
And again and again self-counterattack.
With the 2: 5 the knot bursts - too late
But with Tyler McNeely's 2: 5 a knot burst.
Suddenly, nice simple attacks were made again, such as the good newcomer Samir Kharboutli on Lukas Vantuch or later Lubor Dibelka's hit, who took McNeely's beautiful pass into the barrel and executed it without a start.
Or also Ian Brady's 4-5 in the power play.
"All of a sudden we fought, got back into the game and could even have scored a point," said Gaudet.
But that would not have been fair, he admits.
“We have to work, we don't have the parade series of the preseason that gets the chestnuts out of the fire,” Gaudet points out.
“And we haven't worked for too long.” And so Pascal Aquin hit the empty goal to make it 4: 6, instead of Tölz equalizing in the final phase.
