Fair play campaign of the week: The Eichenried penalty that wasn't

Another argument why football is much nicer in the lower leagues than in the pros: The VAR does not resolve wrong decisions in any basement. It's still very easy here with an honest word - and a case of beer.

Another argument why football is much nicer in the lower leagues than in the pros: The VAR does not resolve wrong decisions in any basement.

It's still very easy here with an honest word - and a case of beer.

Last Sunday in Kirchasch: The KSC reserve is in the B class 0: 1 against SV Eichenried 2 behind and is so hopelessly inferior.

Then: corner kick for the guests.

A whistle.

Penalty kick!

Huh!

Florian Henneberger is surprised, but then grabs the ball and puts it on the spot.

But then he pauses.

"The people from Kirchascher complained, my teammates didn't really know what had actually happened," he says.

And then he only found out that a foul had apparently been whistled against him.

“I only walked towards the first post.

The Kirchascher behind me apparently stumbled. ”The referee apparently assessed this as a look-up, suspects Henneberger.

"But that's definitely not it."

That someone in the B-Class “flies over one's own Fiaß” (quote from Henneberger) sounds, sorry B-Class, quite credible.

The matter was clear: accident, not meanness - so acquittal.

The referee saw it that way.

Instead of a 911, there was a corner that didn't bring in anything.

The Eichenrieder also missed all other other opportunities.

"We should have led 5-1 by half time," said Henneberger.

"The Kirchascher also admitted that."

In fact, KSC trainer Andreas Hackl spoke of a "happy victory after the game, because a converted penalty would have meant 2-0 and then we would have been dead".

As it was, however, the Eichenrieder merged one chance after the next, "made three stupid mistakes" (Hackl quote), and Kirchasch actually won 3: 1.

That was a bit annoying, Henneberger admitted.

Of course, he was then allowed to listen to some sayings from the other players.

“It was all just fun,” the 29-year-old assures.

Because he didn't regret his honesty because of it.

"If the whole thing had happened to us, we would have been happy if the opponent had acted like that." For him, his reaction was a matter of course.

“Well,” says KSC trainer Hackl, “it happens that someone corrects throw-ins or free kicks.

But a penalty?

I've never seen anything like it. ”The man is 34 and has been playing football for 29 years.

The three points are now on the account of the KSC.

Eichenrieder immediately got a case of beer.

"We put it in the boys' cabin right away," says Hackl.

We say cheers and congratulate you on the fair play campaign of the week.
