While Gianni Infantino's Fifa struggles to gain unanimity with its World Cup project organized every two years, UEFA counter-attacks.

The European football body would in fact consider setting up an international tournament, which would consist in including Brazil and Argentina in the best strengths of the League of Nations.

A competition established in 2018, and the last edition of which was won by the France team a few weeks ago.

Information reported by La gazzetta Dello Sport, and supported by the Brazilian media Uol.

They detail the proposals exchanged between UEFA and Conmebol, the South American football confederation.

An Italy-Argentina meeting in June 2022

If the project is still just emerging for the time being, some outlines have started to be drawn. The top four from the League of Nations or the Euro, and the top four from the Copa America, would meet to play a tournament. Here too, the rules are still to be defined, but two groups of four teams could be formed, the first two of each group then facing each other in the semi-finals. The competition would be organized every four years.

The two bodies have, moreover, already decided to share a common office in London, to establish common strategies and bring together the different national teams, while friendly meetings between European and South American staff are rare. .

A match between Italy, winner of the last Euro, and Argentina, winner of the last Copa America, is scheduled for June 2022.
