Hertha BSC has taken a step out of the sporting crisis and has won the Bundesliga for the second time in a row.
Against a disappointing Borussia Mönchengladbach, an artistic goal from Marco Richter was enough for the capital club to win 1-0 (1-0) (40th minute).
In the table, the Berliners leave Gladbach behind and jump to tenth place for the moment.
Joe Scally and Maximilian Mittelstädt caused a first upset scene in the eighth minute: The Gladbach full-back had penetrated the penalty area and fell to the ground in the immediate vicinity of Mittelstädt. Referee Benjamin Cortus initially decided on a penalty, but then received the instruction from the video assistant to look at the scene again: Mittelstädt had not touched Scally, the penalty did not last.
Without really putting the Berliners under great pressure, Gladbach then seemed to control the game.
After a nice play, Breel Embolo shot from a tight angle just over the Hertha goal, but Pál Dárdai's team could not set any accents on the offensive.
Instead, the first shot on Gladbach's goal also led directly to the opening goal: A blocked overhead kick attempt by Krzysztof Piątek hit Marco Richter, whose side puller lowered himself into the goal as a bouncer over Yann Sommer (40th).
Gladbach counteroffensive?
Nothing
In the second half, Hertha started with the luxury of being able to limit themselves to counter-football.
The fact that there were hardly any counterattacks in Berlin was mainly due to the fact that Gladbach often hardly got beyond sluggish passes in midfield: One week after the game against VfB Stuttgart (1: 1), in which Borussia fired 31 shots, the team came off Adi Hütter not more than ten attempts this time.
It was only in the final minutes that the Berlin goal came in danger, Patrick Herrmann hit the outside netting with the best chance (84th).
