A hat-trick from Mason Mount and the glaring deficiencies of the red lantern, Norwich, allowed the Blues to forget their absences in attack.

With 22 points, Chelsea are two points ahead of Manchester City, who overtook Liverpool, 3rd to four units, before their trip to Manchester United on Sunday (5.30 p.m.).

With only 2 points in nine days and already 23 goals conceded, the Canaries seem left for relegation, a year after their return to the top flight. In the absence of his duo at 150 million euros, the "kids" of the training center, Mason Mount (1-0, 8th), Callum Hudson-Odoï (2-0, 18th) and Reece James (3- 0, 42nd) folded the match in the first period.

After the break, Ben Chilwell (4-0, 57th), for his third goal over the last three days, and a goal against his camp from Max Aarons (5-0, 62nd) made the addition worse.

Norwich also finished at 10 after the expulsion of Ben Gibson (65th), before Mount further increased the score on penalty (6-0, 85th), then in added time (7-0, 90 +1).

With relatively easy matches to come against Southampton (16th) in the League Cup, Newcastle (19th) and Burnley (18th) in the league, and the return to Malmö in C1, before the next international break, the absence of Lukaku and de Werner could well be an incident of no consequence for the Blues.

City punishes Brighton

A surprise team at the start of the season, Brighton was brought back to reality by City (4-1).

If they are still 4th, their 7 points behind the leader show the gap that still separates them from the very best.

It took only half an hour for opportunistic Citizens to make a difference.

Ilkay Gündogan took advantage of a hand fault by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to open the scoring (1-0, 13th), before Phil Foden added a brace (2-0, 28th then 3-0, 31st) in three minutes by taking advantage of the defensive largesse of an opponent who was too playful A penalty from Alexis McAllister (3-1, 81st) rewarded a more balanced second half but in added time, Riyad Mahrez restored the advantage (4 -1, 90 + 5).

Glimmer of hope in Newcastle

For the second match under the Saudi flag and the first without Steve Bruce, sacked on Wednesday, Newcastle obtained a happy draw at Crystal Palace (1-1).

Despite a very poor offensive match (6 shots, 2 on target), Callum Wilson (1-1, 65th) responded to the opening scoring of Christian Benteke (1-0, 56th), who also touched twice the amounts in this game.

With 4 points, the Magpies - currently coached by Bruce's former assistant Graeme Jones - have still not won this season and remain 19th 3 points behind Leeds, 17th and first non-relegation.

Led until the extra time, the Peacocks equalized through Rodrigo Moreno against Wolverhampton (1-1, 90th + 3).

This sixth draw of the season does not do the business of the Eagles and Patrick Vieira either, stuck in 15th place with 9 points.

Ranieri and Watford sink Everton

Crushed by Liverpool (5-0) last Saturday, for the first of Claudio Ranieri on the bench, Watford won with the manner at the other club on the banks of the Mersey, Everton (5-2).

Promising under the leadership of Rafael Benitez at the start of the season, the Toffees collapsed in the last quarter of an hour and are only 8th at 8 points behind Chelsea after taking only one point in the last three matches.

Despite the return of injury from Richarlison who came into play and scorer (2-1, 63rd), Everton especially let slip a match where he led twice, floored by the hat-trick of his former Norwegian striker Josh King (1-1, 13th, 2-3, 80th and 2-4, 86th).

Juraj Kucka (2-2, 78th) and Emmanuel Denis (2-5, 90 + 1) also scored while Tom Davies opened the scoring for the locals in the 3rd minute.
