In response, hundreds of Hapoel Jerusalem fans who made their way to the Negev abandoned the stadium on the grounds of police violence: "The police entered the stands because of a torch that was lit and the incident became very violent," said one of the fans.

The club also issued a statement following the events: "Israeli police officers went up to the stands around the 20th minute of the game after a torch was lit in the stands to 'restore order' - the police officers entered violently, and blew up dozens of Hapoel Jerusalem fans, completely normative, and forcibly pulled them out. "A group of fans. We are the crowd - and we give full back to the members of the stands. Hundreds of us went out in protest. This is not how this game should look like," it was written.
