Reactions in Los Angeles to the death of Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash (Photo: Reuters, video editing: Nir Chen)
As part of the lawsuit following her huge lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, Vanessa Bryant filed an affidavit in which she provided hair-raising testimony about the way she found out about the deaths of her husband Kobe and eldest daughter Jiana. The words of the late basketball player were published tonight (Saturday through Sunday) in the United States.
Vanessa was at home with her two little girls when a family assistant rang the doorbell around 11:30 p.m. The same aide announced that Kobe and Gianna were involved in a helicopter crash, but initial reports claimed that five of those involved survived, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. At first, Vanessa thought Kobe and Gianna were still alive and helping other victims. However, she tried to call him and then began to see on her phone the alerts about Kobe's death.
Vanessa hurried to try and get to the scene of the accident.
At first she arrived at the airport to board a helicopter, but local workers did not allow her to fly due to the precarious weather conditions.
She eventually traveled with the Lakers' general manager (and Kobe's former agent), Rob Plinka, to the sheriff's station in Malibu.
There, she said, no one answered her questions about Kobe and Gianna until Alex Vilnauba, a pastor and sheriff in Los Angeles, confirmed to her that her husband and daughter were among those who perished in the disaster.

As you may recall, Vanessa Bryant sued the sheriff's office for millions for negligence, invasion of privacy and emotional distress, claiming that body was responsible for the leak of photos from the scene of the accident in which Kobe and Giana Bryant were killed.
