The stupidity moves in Ligue 1. The incidents in Saint-Etienne Friday evening had set the sad tone of this 11th day.
A brawl between supporters of Bordeaux and Nantes broke out on Sunday in Lorient, shortly before the L 1 match between the local team and the Girondins, leaving three injured who were hospitalized, according to police and firefighters.
Around noon, in the city center of Lorient, “Bordeaux residents were quietly in front of a bar having something to eat (…) when they were attacked, neither more nor less. Because we had spotted them, we could see that they were calm and that there was no problem at all. It was the people of Nantes who jumped on them, ”a police source told AFP, confirming information from local media. The brawl brought together “around thirty Nantes residents and around fifty Bordeaux residents. There were several injured, three of whom were taken to hospital for more appropriate treatment, ”added this source.
Morbihan firefighters confirmed that three men were taken to hospital on Sunday following a brawl in the city center.
Lorient welcomed Bordeaux on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (final score 1-1) for the 11th day of Ligue 1. Saturday, Nantes had beaten Clermont at home (2-1).
“We led the supporters (Bordeaux) to the visitors' kop (for the Lorient-Bordeaux match, Editor's note) and it stopped there.
It is likely that it is supporters (Nantes) who came to fight with the Bordelais and once done, they left ”, added the police source, specifying that there had been no serious injuries.
A liability between the supporters of the two cities
In 2017, the Loire-Atlantique prefecture invoked a series of incidents between supporters of the two clubs to prohibit the movement of Bordeaux supporters to Nantes before finally authorizing a very small contingent.
The government has promised the Professional Football League (LFP) "coordinated actions" to fight against insecurity in the stadiums, and a "strong response" to the incidents that marked the start of the season in Ligue 1, in a letter including AFP obtained a copy on Sunday.
Faced with the multiplication of incidents in the stadiums this season (throwing objects and smoke, invading the ground, clashes between groups of supporters ...), the LFP had called on the government to the rescue at the end of August on the “legal responses” to be brought to these excesses.
