Season half-time balance sheet by Sando Wagner: "It was crazy"

After the last first round match day of the Regionalliga Bayern, which SpVgg Unterhaching successfully concluded with a 5: 2 (3: 0) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth II, the question of the balance for the first half of the season arose.

- “It was crazy. We had every rubbish that one could get, ”was the first conclusion of Haching's head coach Sandro Wagner. In fact, the third division relegated team has been confronted with many imponderables since the beginning of the season, which quickly thwarted the original season goal of direct promotion. A personal upheaval after relegation to amateur football, including the very late engagement of Wagner as the new head coach for the unsuccessful predecessor Arie van Lent, left the SpVgg very badly off the starting blocks. The Red-Blue had to wait four game days until the first victory was bagged.

After the start of the stuttering, there was a series of five victories before a homemade personnel problem hit the Hachingers like a boomerang. Many of the experienced newcomers had initially proven to be non-competitive in terms of fitness. Haching lost his games with the unfit veterans in the last 20 minutes. And against classic amateur teams who, compared to the Hachingen people who train daily and under professional conditions, only have a fraction of the scope of training after work.

When Haching seemed to have recognized this striking deficit, the forced Corona break intervened.

Twelve players were infected with the Covid19 virus, and both team training and games were suspended for five weeks.

Ironically, at that phase in which there would have been no more English weeks with games every three days.

“Then we would have had the time on a weekly basis. So Corona came, and after that we played again every three days, ”said Sandro Wagner. “Against Fürth I almost had a first team on the pitch, and then it's a matter of quality when you have players like Hobsch and Hain on the pitch who can then use the moves.” The successful storm duo Hobsch / As in the most recent home win, Hain was hardly on the pitch together with eleven goals each. But all the more young talents that Wagner threw into the deep end.

The development of one or the other Hachinger youngster can make the SpVgg hopeful for the second half of the season.

The same goes for the athletic improvements among the veterans such as Manuel Stiefler, who was substituted for Fürth due to an injury, but apparently does not have to fear a worse injury.
