Ihaia West: the almost perfect match
The New Zealand opener was the great architect of this Rochelle victory, especially in the first period. In total, West scored 27 points in this meeting and allowed the Rochelais to take the advantage very quickly thanks to a try against from the 8th minute of play. The yellow and black opener takes care of the transformation himself. before doubling the bet on a superb feint that pierced the RCT defense. To this we must add two penalties and we get an almost perfect match from the New Zealand opener who simply missed a kick against the poles in the 59th minute. Otherwise, it is faultless.
La Rochelle finally goes on with authority
10th at kick-off, La Rochelle is now in 5th place in the Top 14 thanks to this improved victory against Toulouse.
Last year's runner-up struggled to kick off his season with three losses in as many days.
But this Sunday, the Maritimes signed a third straight victory and did so with authority.
After a narrow success in Brive last weekend (8-6), Brice Dulin's teammates knew how to punish the mistakes of their opponents and showed opportunism.
FLOPS
Toulon: a mixture of indiscipline and awkwardness
Willful but far too clumsy. This is how we could sum up the performance of the RCT tonight. Patrice Collazzo's men managed to cross the in-goal twice but had their tries refused each time. On the second, Aymeric Luc makes a forward by wanting to receive his own game with the foot. Therefore, the RCT did not register any tries tonight. Admittedly, La Rochelle's defense was very solid but it was well helped by the Var inaccuracies throughout the meeting. Too often at fault, the RCT has delivered a game representative of its entire season so far.
The RCT sinks into the crisis
Hard to believe but yes, Toulon is in a relegation position on the evening of the 8th day of Top 14. This heavy defeat plunges the Var into the crisis which the coach, Patrice Collazzo, could bear the brunt.
His men have won only two Top 14 matches this season, including a particularly narrow one against Brive in Mayol two weeks ago (13-9).
Before this match, the president of the club, Bernard Lemaitre, had announced that he wanted to make a point "in three games".
These three matches are now played for a record of a victory acquired under the whistles of Mayol and two defeats at Racing and La Rochelle.
Largely dominated this evening, the RCT confirmed that it was not at the level so far and the next few hours promise to be stormy on the harbor.
