XV of France: Antoine Dupont named captain for the autumn tour

The scrum half of the XV of France compensates Charles Ollivon, usual holder of the armband, for the three matches of the XV of France in November.

The best player of the Blues will become the captain.

Antoine Dupont was named captain of the XV of France on Monday for the three matches of the autumn tour that Fabien Galthié's men will play in November.

The scrum half of the Toulouse Stadium will be "in relay", as stated in the press release published by the French Rugby Federation (FFR), from the usual armband wearer, Charles Ollivon.

Victim of a cruciate ligament rupture with his club Toulon in June, the third row will miss this meeting, like the Australian tour this summer.

At 25, Antoine Dupont will cross an important symbolic milestone within this XV of France.

Offensive leader of the French game, the player will therefore be responsible for leading his partners against Argentina, Georgia and especially for the clash against New Zealand, respectively on 6, 14 and 20 November.

It won't be a first for him.

He was once a club captain

The Toulouse number nine, excellent with the Rouge et Noir since the start of the season, was already club captain during the European Cup final against La Rochelle in May in the absence of Julien Marchand, hooker of the XV of France and Toulouse Stadium.

He has since been part of the rotation in Toulouse.

Named best player of the 2020 Six Nations Tournament and best European player last season, Antoine Dupont is a staple of the XV of France version Fabien Galthié.

Other players, such as Gaël Fickou, Julien Marchand, Grégory Alldritt or Anthony Jelonch - captain in Australia this summer - were also cited to take the captaincy in the absence of Charles Ollivon.

It will ultimately be the most emblematic and famous player of this XV of France who has been designated for this reunion of the Blues with their public after a year and a half of health restrictions.
