FC Bayern Munich does not intend to put pressure on unvaccinated football professionals like national player Joshua Kimmich.

This is what CEO Oliver Kahn and club president Herbert Hainer said on Monday evening in Munich.

The association has "a clear stance" and recommends everyone to vaccinate, said Kahn.

But you have to "respect when one or the other has a different opinion."

At the same time, Kahn emphasized that he saw it as a duty of FC Bayern "to constantly provide educational services." Hainer also said that the club supported the vaccination campaign "sustainably", but it was "the decision of each individual". That has to be accepted. "At the end of the day there is no compulsory vaccination with us," said Hainer, but also made it clear that he would be happy if Kimmich should change his mind and still get vaccinated.

Honorary President Uli Hoeneß did not want to comment on the Kimmich case.

"I have an opinion on that, but only for himself," said Hoeness.

Kimmich had stated in a TV interview at the weekend that he had not yet been vaccinated against the corona virus.

As a reason, he gave concerns about "the lack of long-term studies."

The statements made by the German international had sparked a broad discussion.

In the meantime, even the federal government has commented on Kimmich.

Government spokesman Steffen Seibert had spoken of a "quite surprising statement" from the Bayern professional and emphasized that there were "clear and convincing answers" to all open questions from the footballer.

In this respect, Seibert hopes "that Joshua Kimmich will let all this information work on him again and then maybe be able to decide in favor of the vaccination."
