Borussia Dortmund has reached the third round in the DFB Cup.
An uninspired but focused performance and a lot of patience were enough for BVB against FC Ingolstadt until the substitute Thorgan Hazard scored twice to 2-0 (0-0) against the bottom of the second division (72nd / 81st minute).
BVB coach Marco Rose decided on a starting eleven with many players from the second row - partly to spare regulars like Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard and Manuel Akanji during the second English week in a row, partly due to injury and illness.
Instead of Erling Haaland (muscle injury) and Donyell Malen (gastrointestinal infection), Reinier and Stefan Tigges stormed.
Against Ingolstadt, the rotating starting XI was enough to control the game, but not to take an early lead.
Jude Bellingham hit the crossbar with a flick (27th), Mats Hummels even maneuvered the ball into the goal after a corner kick (31st).
However, because of an offensive foul by Emre Can, referee Matthias Jöllenbeck did not give the goal.
Tigges unhappy, Hazard effective
After the break, BVB got closer, Tigges (52nd) headed a cross from the six-yard area to the lower edge of the crossbar.
Only when Rose decided to bring Reus and Hazard did the game tip in favor of Dortmund - mainly thanks to Hazard: First the Belgian scored the opening goal one minute after being substituted on (72nd), then he scored after a clever run on the long post also the second BVB goal of the evening (81st).
