The ice pirates' knot has burst.

Dorfen - The feelings in the Dorfen ESC camp changed between lows and highs last weekend.

It goes without saying that the local ice hockey fans, but also the team, had to cope with the fifth defeat in the fifth game - the 3: 6 on Friday against Geretsried - for the time being.

The cheering on Sunday evening after the 6: 5 victory in third in the table in Schongau and the first three points was all the greater.

"I am very happy about this victory - in Dorfen you have to win first," said Geretsried coach Rudi Sternkopf in the press conference. With two exceptions, he was finally able to call up all the regular players again, but initially in the second period his team “neglected to take advantage of the opportunities”.

For him, the game was "cruel", stressed Dorfens coach Franz Steer. However, he referred to the difficult situation in the ice pirate camp. He had only been able to muster eleven players in Tuesday training due to injuries and flu. Tomas Vrba suffered from a hand injury for two weeks and was only able to train on Thursday. With captain Christian Göttlicher, defender Gasper Susanj, Maximilian Steiner and Lukas Kirsch some leading players were missing. In addition, defender Max Huber also dropped out prematurely.

"The boys are trying," said Steer, but it could not be that his team got 25 to 30 shots from the slot position.

“We also lost our rhythm due to the failure of the games against Schweinfurt and Waldkraiburg,” said the Dorfen coach.

"I agree with Mani Detterbeck (ice hockey department head at ESC Dorfen; d. Ed.): We don't need a superstar, we want to form a team."

Steer had a special praise for goalie Andi Marek, whom he named as the best player, which was acknowledged with great applause from the press conference participants.

The ESC head coach could breathe a sigh of relief two days later after winning the game with the favorite Schongauers.

Here, too, he referred to the permanent illness and injury problems of his ice pirates, who also had to cope with a difficult opening program with lots of top teams.

He was particularly pleased that the Slovenian striker Urban Sodja had the lion's share of the win with his three goals.

They also have the youngest team in the league with an average age of 22.5 years, the average age of defenders is even 21 years.

"Of course, failures of high performers are particularly significant," emphasized Steer.

Schongau's coach Rainer Höfler regretted that his team was virtually absent for 40 minutes: "And if you only play ice hockey for 20 minutes, then you lose, and rightly so."
