Florian Kohfeldt is the new coach at Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg.

The 39-year-old will receive a contract with Lower Saxony until 2023, as VfL announced on Tuesday.

"Sport Bild" and "Bild" had previously reported on the agreement between the coach and the club.

Kohfeldt was released from his duties at Werder in May of this year despite a contract until the summer of 2023.

Borussia Dortmund's technical director Edin Terzic was also recently considered a candidate.

After separating from van Bommel, Michael Frontzeck was promoted to interim coach at the Champions League participant.

VfL's next duel is on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen.
