Like the summer games, the 2022 winter games in Beijing will take place under corona conditions.

The Chinese government is already setting requirements for the participants.

Beijing - Anyone wishing to take part in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing must be fully vaccinated against the corona virus *.

This applies according to the new guidelines of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which have now been published around 100 days before the start of the competitions.

If athletes are unable to provide proof of vaccination, they face a three-week “hard quarantine”.

The website of the National Public Radio (NPR) from the USA reports on how such one looks at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

Athletes are therefore not even allowed to leave their hotel room in the Olympic Village, for example.

So that this measure is not taken, all participants must provide proof of vaccination against Corona, which has been valid for at least two weeks before entering China *.

Olympia 2022 in Beijing: tough measures against the corona virus

Colleen Wrenn, IOC representative for the Paralympic Winter Games, which will also take place in Beijing, spoke to the NPR.

According to Wrenn, in view of the increasing number of infections worldwide, the IOC and also “absolutely no one else can allow themselves to act complacent”.

At the Olympics * 2022, no compromises will be made in the fight against the corona pandemic.

In addition to the tough quarantine, the IOC in Beijing will also adopt other far-reaching measures against the spread of the corona virus.

All people involved in the games, i.e. athletes as well as assistants and the support staff, should be tested daily for Sars-Cov-2 using a PCR test.

Olympic Winter Games in Beijing - much tougher than Tokyo

The announced measures for the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022 are far tougher than for the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo in 2021 *. A few weeks ago, the organizers had also excluded any audience for the competitions in Beijing *. Compared to previous games, this time it was definitely "a completely different experience, on many levels," Juan Antonio Samaranch told the NPR. Samaranch is the chairman of the coordination office at the IOC for the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

The tough quarantine for unvaccinated athletes at the Winter Games in Beijing could become a problem, especially for the USA team.

As the Wall Street Journal reported in July 2021, the United States delegation was ranked third from bottom of the major countries in terms of vaccination rates.

Around 100 athletes of the 613 attendees were unvaccinated at the Summer Olympics.

According to the US news agency AP, 83 percent said they were fully vaccinated against corona.
