Women's Euro 2022: a lenient draw for France

It will therefore be Italy, Belgium and Iceland for the French women's team during the next Women's Euro scheduled from July 6 to 31 in England.

The draw was made this Thursday evening in Manchester.

Seeded (with England, Germany and the Netherlands, title holders), France, 5th in the Fifa rankings, has certainly fallen on the most affordable opponent in hat 2 with Italy ( 14th world team).

The transalpines, quarter-finalists of the last World Cup, remain potentially weaker than Sweden or Spain, other possible opponents.

The Italians to start

Belgium, first in their qualifying group, have never made it through the group stage at Euro.

Iceland reached the quarterfinals in 1995 and 2014. Rejuvenated and undefeated since April 2021, Corinne Deacon's team remains on two broad qualifying successes for the 2023 World Cup, the first at home against Estonia (11-0 ) October 22, the second Tuesday 26 in Kazakhstan (5-0).

During the previous Euro in 2017, France was eliminated in the quarter-finals by England (1-0).

The England-Austria match will kick off the competition on July 6 at Old Trafford, Manchester United's ante.

Les Bleues will enter the competition on July 10 against Italy.
