It took FC Bayern Munich just a quarter of an hour on the 10th Bundesliga matchday to dispel any doubts about self-confidence.
After the historic 5-0 defeat in the DFB Cup at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the leaders at Union Berlin started focused and benefited from Paul Jäckel's handball in his own penalty area.
As usual, striker Robert Lewandowski converted the penalty that was due (15th minute).
Until the 43rd minute, Bayern acted as if they hadn't conceded five goals during the week. Lewandowski scored a second time with a free kick from the edge of the penalty area, Leroy Sané pushed the ball over the line from close range to make it 3-0. When Niko Gießelmann shortened before the break (43.), the guests wobbled briefly, seconds later the ball was again in the Bayern goal. But Sheraldo Becker was just offside before his graduation.
This short trend was also confirmed after the break.
Union was initially the better team, the Berliners were close to the connection goal for a quarter of an hour.
But Bayern hit back in the person of Kingsley Coman, after a solo, the Frenchman put the ball from the right edge of the penalty area under the bar with force (59th).
The fifth goal was scored by Thomas Müller (79th).
The second Berlin goal by Julian Ryerson (64th) showed one thing above all: Bayern have to accept too many goals this season, but the bankruptcy in Gladbach should remain an exception.
BVB wins thanks to Hazard and Tigges
Bayern pursuer Borussia Dortmund has also won despite a few missing regular players and remains one point behind in second place in the table. BVB had to do without Erling Haaland, Emre Can, Giovanni Reyna, Mahmoud Dahoud and Raphael Guerreiro, which was noticeable against 1. FC Köln. Dortmund were not as dominant as in previous home games this season. Thorgan Hazard used one of the few scoring chances with a header to close the break.
In the second half, Borussia continued to struggle in front of 67,028 spectators, while Cologne pushed for the equalizer at times. With the substitution of Donyell Malen and Steffen Tigges (58th) it got better for BVB, Tigges hit the decision a little later after a corner kick with a header (64th). It was his first goal in the Bundesliga in the ninth game. The Dortmund team will continue in the Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam during the week, and BVB will travel to Leipzig on the next Bundesliga matchday.
In Florian Kohfeldt's coaching debut, VfL Wolfsburg won at Bayer Leverkusen. After a balanced first half without any major highlights, Wolfsburg, who had previously been winless in eight competitive games, came out of the cabin with a one-two punch. First Lukas Nmecha met after strong preparatory work by Dodi Lukebakiuo (48th), only three minutes later Maximilian Arnold shot under the crossbar in the third Wolfsburg attempt from 15 meters. Bayer missed a penalty in stoppage time, Lucas Alario failed to Koen Casteels. Maxence Lacroix had seen the red card for the foul.
Leverkusen has been waiting for a win for five competitive games and coach Gerardo Seoane has to master the first difficult situation at his new employer.
Bayer is in fourth place in the table, but the gap to Borussia Dortmund in second is already seven points.
Freiburg continues to win
With only one point from the first nine games, Greuther Fürth doesn't seem competitive this season. Against the surprise team of the league from Freiburg, which is on a Champions League pitch, the Fürth also took over the goal scoring of the opponent: First Simon Asta headed the ball after a cross into the corner, mind you in the corner of his own goal ( 20.). Then a header from Freiburg's Nicolas Höfler hit the post so badly that the ball landed from the back of goalkeeper Marius Funk in the goal (39th).
