First competitive game: Cam Spiro shoots the lions for a 3-2 win in Kaufbeuren

The Tölzer Löwen are not discouraged by the two-fold deficit.

Thanks to the double goal scorer Cam Spiro and an outstanding goalie performance by Marco Wölfl, the Buam win 3-2 in Kaufbeuren.

Kaufbeuren / Bad Tölz - The Tölzer Lions are increasingly becoming a curiosity.

Three home bankruptcies against opponents clearly opposed in terms of performance raise questions.

On the other hand, there are great experiences of success with highly traded teams like Kassel, Ravensburg and, since Sunday evening: Kaufbeuren.

Kevin Gaudet's Resterampe narrowly won at Berliner Platz, but after a great team performance he deserved it 3-2.

Man of the evening was double goal scorer Cam Spiro in his first competitive game for the Lions.

The basis for the victory were also nine resolute outnumbered situations.

Vantuch has to go into the stands, Horschel into the storm

The league premiere of Spiro was at the expense of Lukas Vantuch, who for the first time since his engagement attended the drivers of his teammates as a spectator.

Spiro was allowed to try his hand at the center for Thomas Brandl and Philipp Schlager.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom Horschel was also in the line-up, although a broken foot was feared after a collision with the window last Thursday.

The actual astonishment, however, was based on Horschel's field of activity.

Kevin Gaudet offered the 24-year-old in the storm, which counted ten emergency services and was thus far more abundant than the defensive, which was still composed of just two blocks.

Blomqvist's goal canceled after studying video

As in previous away matches, the Tölzer did their job properly. Kaufbeuren's guided tour by Sami Blomquist was not recognized after studying video because the Finn not only pushed the pane but also Marco Wölfl's schooner over the goal line. When Joey Lewis hit, there was nothing wrong with the supervisors. The German-Canadian, who was in the service of Tölzer during the league times, sank a shot into the short corner of the goal at passing speed. This was made possible solely because Maxi Leitner carried out his defensive efforts for a moment in Wölfl's field of vision.

The lions reacted calmly and carefully.

Tyler McNeely equalized the score in the power play when Joker goalie Max Meier failed to hold Ian Brady's flick from the blue line and the ESVK defense could not dispose of the puck quickly enough.

Meier quickly made up for his mistake by destroying a shorthand from Thomas Merl despite the positional advantage of Tölzer.

Once again, the opening goal was within reach, but it doesn't always work out as well as before with McNeely if there is a numerical advantage.

So the new advantage was reserved for the Allgäuers.

When Florian Thomas backhanded the disc under Wölfl, the defense duo Number, Brady and Leitner, had just taken a vacation. But the Buam rectified this setback as well. Horschel and Beppi Eberhardt with the overview, Spiro with his first goal for Bad Tölz from the half-right position - 2: 2. Spiro was full of energy. The US boy accepted a pass from Eberhardt at the goal area, only to sink it in the second attempt past Stefan Vajs, who had meanwhile been exchanged for the knocked Meier, to make it 3-2.

In the last third, the Tölzer did almost everything right;

Except for two senseless punishments from Horschel.

But with the exception of a post hit by Sören Sturm, the Kaufbeurer was no longer in it.

“In the end we had the luck we needed to puck,” said Löwen coach Kevin Gaudet.

But no matter who was sitting in the penalty box, the lions and their famous goalie presented themselves indomitable.

"Our outnumbered game was excellent," said Gaudet, adding: "Our goalie too."
