Edinson Cavani found himself in a rather surreal state.
Late last season, when he informed the Manchester United management of his intention to leave, return to South America and join Boca Juniors, the Red Devils put enormous pressure on him, explained his importance to the team and even lured him to play at Old Trafford full of fans - which he avoided last year.
It all worked out, and in early May the parties solemnly announced the signing of a contract for another year.
The Uruguayan was convinced that this would be the right decision in terms, but then - boom!
- Cristiano Ronaldo came to him and completely devoured all the cards.
Professionally, Kabani was pleased with the club, which he joined as a free agent on the verge of closing the transfer window in October 2020. He fitted in superbly with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, served as a mentor for the young stars at the helm, won important games, and was unequivocally crowned United's best new player . He had 17 goals in all competitions, and the climactic moment came in the Europa League semi-final against Roma, so he contributed a pair, cooked twice and failed to score by Chris Smalling in the huge 2: 6 victory. But just then the reports of his desire to end this term at the end of one season were widespread, and the reasons were mainly social.
Life in England was not easy for him, easy and material in the Corona period that prevented the visits of family and friends to whom he is so accustomed.
The loneliness in the gray weather was also joined by the understanding that the state is not interested in accepting it as it is.
The bizarre suspension from 3 games, given to him by the association on a personal post to his friend on Instagram with the caption "Gracias Negrito", only contributed to the general feeling of alienation.
Kabani may have felt he belonged to the club, but did not really connect with the country.

In the end, however, professional judgment prevailed over the personal. Solskjaer, who failed to shower praise on his scorer, succeeded in the task and made Uruguay stay for another season. Ronaldo's return was out of the question, until the move suddenly took effect on 27 August.
For the Portuguese, Kabani agreed to give up and take the number 21 shirt, with which he also plays for the team.
He had no problem fighting over numbers - he never messed with nonsense and focused on net football.
The thing is, Ronaldo also stole football from him.
Instead of being a very central figure in the shows, Kabani became a rather marginal actor.
And so, instead of being in South America, he gets stuck on the bench in England.

By normal logic, the two veterans were not supposed to hurt each other. The 36-year-old Ronaldo is better off not always being on the pitch, and Kabani is also unable to be in the squad on a regular basis on a regular basis. Also against Atlanta, Cavani came in when the Red Devils were trailing and contributed to the turnaround, including cooking for Harry Maguire on the way to a 2-3 draw.
Ronaldo won both games and got all the titles, but Kabani was no less helpful.

Then, when his chair rocked heavily after the disgraceful 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool, Solskjaer decided to include his two aging stars in the starting line-up for the first time.
With Bruno Fernandez behind them, Cabani and Ronaldo were combined - and the result was great.
The Uruguayan ran non-stop, pressured Tottenham's defensive players, found free space for himself - and also cleared even more space for the Portuguese.
He made a significant contribution to the goal scored by Ronaldo from Fernandez's pass before the break, after which Cristiano even arranged an artistic assist for Kabani and engineered their first joint goal.
Since Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, Manchester United have not had such an older pair of conquerors and cooks.
And it does not really matter which of them wears the shirt number 7. It ended 0: 3, Nono went home, Solskjaer is still here.
The next task - a goal in the Champions League.

"I've been here for 3 years, and I have not seen a player train like Kabani trained on Tuesday. It was amazing," the coach testified when explaining the successful bet.
Because when it comes to professionalism, Kabani is second to none.
He has a lot more to say this season, before he leaves Europe, and that includes the Champions League as well.
His last hair at the factory was in December 2018, and it can be expected that these statistics will be corrected soon.
